 October 11, 2004 Michigan Bans Obesity Lawsuits Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm has signed into law a bill that bans obesity lawsuits in that state. The law, which was signed last Thursday, states that those involved in the manufacturing, distribution, advertisement or sale of food will not be held liable for injury or death arising from weight gain or an obesity-related health condition.“ With so many warnings and news stories about diet and lifestyle choices it seems outrageous that anyone could claim they didn’t know the possible outcomes of their actions,”said state representative David Palsrok, the bill’s sponsor.
