Report: W. Va. Firm Acquires 37 Chicago-Area Burger Kings

C.H. James & Co. of Charleston, W. Va., has acquired 37 franchised Burger King restaurants in the Chicago area, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The firm, which, according to the report, is said to be the country’s oldest continually operating African-American-owned business, purchased the restaurants from franchisee Sheldon Friedman for an undisclosed price.

C.H. James & Co. Chief Executive Charles James III will move to the Chicago area to oversee the newly acquired operations.

This is a new business for the company, which previously distributed produce to chain restaurants before selling those operations during an industry consolidation last year, the report stated.
