DI to Skip NRA

Jackson, Miss.-based DI Foodservice Cos. announced that it will not exhibit at this year’s National Restaurant Association Show.

In making the announcement, DI indicated it will instead concentrate on presenting at The NAFEM Show, September 23-25 in Anaheim, Calif.

“The decision by the company not to exhibit at the 2005 NRA Show does not in any way imply any lack of support for the National Restaurant Association. To the contrary, we believe the National Restaurant Association is one of the premier associations in the food industry,”said Lynn Bay, DI’s senior vice president of Sales and Marketing. “It’s simply that we must focus our resources towards the fall biennial equipment show rather than to split those resources between both events this year.”

According to Mary Pat Heftman, the NRA’s senior vice president, despite DI’s decision, the NRA show remains strong. “We’re coming off a 2004 show that had a 4% increase in the number of exhibiting companies and a 4% increase in attendance,”she said, adding that exhibitor numbers for 2005 are trending ahead of last year.
