Chain Update

McDonald’s, Denny’s and AFC are among the restaurant chains that announced significant financial or operational news in recent weeks.

McDonald’s reported that its global system-wide sales grew by 2.9% in constant currencies during May. Worldwide same-store sales increased by 1.5%. Same-store sales in the United States increased by 4.2% vs. the same period a year earlier.

Denny’s announced its same-store sales result for company-owned units during the four-weeks that closed May 25. Same-store sales increased by 6.4% vs. the year-ago period, reflecting a 5.9% increase in the average check and a 0.5% increase in guest counts.

AFC Enterprises announced that Kenneth Keymer, currently president of its Popeyes concept, will become company CEO on Sept. 1. Keymer will succeed company founder Frank Belatti, who will remain as the chairman of firm’s board of directors.

Ryan’s Restaurant Group reported its same-store sales for the four-week period that closed on June 1 declined by 2.8% compared to a year earlier. The company’s total sales for the period were approximately $67.1 million, an increase of 1%.
