MAFSI Releases Q2 Barometer
MAFSI’s most recent Business Barometer shows reps’ overall second-quarter sales increasing by 2.9% compared to the year-ago period.
Based on a quarterly survey of reps form across the United States and Canada, the barometer serves as an indicator of the economic health of the foodservice industry.
Of the four major product categories, sales of supplies posted the strongest gain during the period, growing by 3.5%, followed by equipment (3% growth), Furniture (2.7%) and tabletop (2.1%).
By region, reps in the Southern portion of the United States reported the strongest overall growth at 5.1%. Furniture sales in the south increased by 5.7%, equipment by 5.2%, tabletop by 4.3% and supplies by 4.2%.
Overall rep sales in Canada grew by 3.7%, with furniture sales increasing by 5.4%, supplies by 4.2%, equipment by 3.6% and tabletop by 3.1%.
The West posted overall sales growth of 3.3%, with equipment sales increasing by 3.8%, supplies by 2.4%, furniture by 1.7% and tabletop by 1.5%.
In the Northeast, overall rep sales grew by 1.9%. Supplies sales led the pack in this region at 5.2% growth, followed by tabletop (1.9%), equipment (1.7%) and furniture (1.2%).
Reps in the Midwest posted overall sales growth of 0.7% during the period. Supplies sales increased by 1.7%, followed by furniture at 1.4%, equipment at 0.6% and tabletop at 0.4%.
Looking forward to the final sales results for the third quarter, Canadian reps forecasted 4.9% sales growth, flowed by reps in the South at 4.5%, West at 3.9% northeast at 2.6% and Midwest at 2.4%.
