Chain Update

Brinker International and Denny’s are among the companies that announced significant financial or operational news in recent days.

Brinker International announced that it has reached an agreement with Alsea S.A de C.V. and Group Alimentos y Diverson to open 14 new Chili’s units in Mexico City and the surrounding areas.

Denny’s announced its same store sales for the four-week period that closed on Aug. 24 increased by 1.8% vs. the year-ago period. The chain’s average guest check increased by 4.4% during the period, while its guest counts fell by 2.4%.

Ryan’s Restaurant Group announced its same-store sales for the four weeks that closed Aug. 31 fell by 4% vs. the same period a year earlier. Excluding the last week of the period, which would eliminate the impact of Hurricane Katrina, the company’s same-store sales decreased by 3.2%. The chain’s total sales decreased by 1% year-over-year to $62.1 million.

Ruby Tuesday announced that its same-store sales for its fiscal first quarter, which closed on Aug. 30, fell by 3.9% at company-owned units and 6.4% at domestic franchised restaurants.
