Chain Expansion Report

Big Boy, Panera Bread and Red Robin were among companies releasing expansion information.

  • Bob’s Big Boy plans to open 56 new restaurants in California during the next 10 years. Under the agreement, signed by Mike Hashim, president of BBB restaurants, and Suhail Hashim, president of QSC Corp., the first location will open in Colton in May and the second will open in Signal Hill in July. Other locations will span Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties.
  • Brinker International announced the completed sale of Corner Bakery Café to CBC Restaurant Corp., a subsidiary of Il Fornaio America Corp.
  • Kahala Corp. announced plans to open 10 Frullati Café & Bakery restaurants throughout Mississippi during the next five years. Under the agreement with Gerald and Donna Ezell of Ezell Investments, the state’s first Frullati, an Italian-style bakery concept, will open in Flowood, Miss.
  • Panera Bread will develop 15 new bakery-cafes throughout San Antonio and Austin, Texas, during the next six years. In addition, the chain plans to open 24 locations in Ohio, including 14 in Cincinnati and 10 in Columbus. The company also signed an agreement with a franchisee to open 12 new bakery-cafes in California by 2011, spanning across Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties.
