Chain Expansion Report

California Pizza Kitchen, Krispy Kreme and related franchisees report expansion information.

  • California Pizza Kitchen signed an agreement with WDI Corp. of Japan, which will lead to the opening of at least 15 locations throughout Japan within the next 10 years. The first restaurant is scheduled to open in the fall of 2006.
  • Einstein Bros. Bagels, under an agreement with Sodexho Inc., will open a location on the Navy base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu.
  • Krispy Kreme discontinued its relationship with Houston-based franchisee Lone Star Doughnuts Ltd., which will lead to the closure of six locations in the area, according to the Los Angeles Times. In a separate agreement, Lone Star rolled out plans to open five Dough Factory and Coffee Bars in early March.  Three of the locations will be in Houston and the other two will be in Missouri City and Beaumont, Texas.
  • Village Inn Restaurants announced the opening of a new location in Mesa, Ariz., bringing the total number of locations in that state to 28.
