Founding Chairman of Yum! Brands Passes

Andrall Pearson, former founding chairman of Yum! Brands, passed away from a heart attack in his Palm Beach, Fla. home on March 11. He was 80 years old.

Pearson became founding chairman of Yum! Brands after the company’s spin-off from PepsiCo in 1997. He served in that capacity until 2000, at which point David Novak took over as chairman and chief executive officer. Pearson continued to serve on the board of directors and planned to step down in May.

The former chairman’s 40-plus-year career also included such positions as partner of McKinsey & Co., president of PepsiCo, general partner of Clayton, Dubilier and Rice, and tenured professor at Harvard Business School, his alma mater. He also served on various public and non-profit boards including Citigroup, the May Co., TWA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the NYU Medical Center.

Pearson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne Pope Pearson, as well as by his twin brother Dick; his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Alan Rappaport; and two grandchildren, Alex and Hillary. A memorial service will be at the Reformed Church, 180 Pondfield Rd., Bronxville, N.Y., on March 18 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cardiovascular Research Fund at the NYU Medical Center, 560 First Ave. & 32nd St., New York, NY 10016.
